Papua New Guinea’s First Data Stocktaking Workshop
The first national multi-sectoral data for development stocktaking workshop, held on 5-6 September 2017 in Port Moresby, catalysed the discussion on data and established a network of data specialists. Over 120 data practitioners participated in this workshop convened by the Department of National Planning and Monitoring, the National Statistics Office (NSO), the United Nations, the University of Papua New Guinea / Australian National University, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. Together, workshop attendees initiated consultations regarding who is doing what in relation to data to support key national development priorities and plans, including the SDGs in PNG for the period (2017-2030). Through these discussion new possibilities for collaboration, innovation and improved coordination of de-velopment data in Papua New Guinea were identified.
